History

Even if the History does not mention it, the old greeks used to call this village " petrasia " which in greek language means " built on the rocks " .

In fact all buildings and Houses in the  Historical center of this village have been built on the Sea rocks.

Built on the Sea rocks during the 16th  century ( 1580 - 1595 ), the "  Petrosa tower " dominates the Cilento coast, and has been in the past  a norman defensive post against the incursions of  Saracens and Turks who during many centuries were continuosly assalting villages on the coast.

" Petrosa Tower " was projected by eng. Benvenuto Tortelli and built between 1580 and 1595.

Most famous Captains of the Tower were: Carlo Pugliese  in 1598, Colagiovanni Pifano in 1615, Alfonso Fulgenzio in 1636, Biase Capano in 1654,Giulio Capano in1662, Agostino Bello in 1678 and Vincenzo Persicio in 1703.
